The ti flanges are forced on the spindle, and provided witn grooves arranged to prevent the entrance of dust or dirt to the bearings from the outer ends of the boxes. The Self-Oiling Arrangement insures a plentiful supply of oil, and is of sucli construction that it is impossible for any dust, grit or sediment to reach the bearings. Reservoirs are provided underneath the spindles for holding oil, which is fed to the bearings by means of a "wiper." The wiper is pressed up by a brass spring, and kept (onstantly i: i contact with the spindle. Polishing or Grinding Machine. The machine illustrated in Fig. 247 is so constructed that emery or polishing wheels, even though out of balance, will revolve on their center of gravity and wij run smoothly, and wjl not wound, Polishing wheels do not require balancing when rim on this machine, and will retain their coating of emery much longer than on the ordinary machine. The work will not bump or stutter on the wheel, but passes over smoothly, and any wavy appearance of work is entirely obviated.
